Life Is Not A Rehearsal

“Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it were your last. The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed.”- Wayne Dyer

This week has taken me on an emotional ride and during that ride, I took the opportunity to reflect on this thing called “Life”.

The past is over and gone…

The fragility of life has been a constant reminder for me these past few days.  Last Friday, I received a call from my brother while I was at work, which is something he never does.  When I spoke to him, he relayed news that my father was found collapsed on the floor and being  rushed to the hospital.  My dad was an iron man, never stopping, always having the will to push through fatigue and long hours but life takes a toll on all of us and my father was not exempt to this factor.  While his condition is under evaluation, things will never be the same…what was…is now gone.

The future is not guaranteed…

My father’s situation came as a surprise to me.  The news around the world is just as bad as the lives of many people are affected by health related illnesses, violence, and natural disasters…read the headlines.   Tomorrow did not come for many.

Live today as if it were your last…

How are we spending our time?  Are we focusing on the crazy drama?  Are we missing out on spending time with loved ones?  “Life is short” is not a cliché, it’s a golden rule.  If all you have right now is this moment, how will you spend it?  What choices will you make?  Who will you spend that moment with?  Situations (good and bad) are constant but making right choices are priceless.

Life is not a rehearsal,  it is an opportunity for our greatest performance…and we only get one chance to perform.
