Lions Feast On Roasted Skins In MoTown

All I can do is shake my head as I struggle to find the words for this blog.  Anyone remember the song “It’s Not Easy Being Green” by Kermit the Frog?  Well, it’s not easy being a Redskins fan.  Being one of a very select few Redskins fans on the west coast, my team has shamed me…yet again.

After 21 months without a win, the Washington Redskins decided to be the first team to help the Detroit Lions start a winning streak, losing to the Lions 19-14.  I said in an earlier blog that the Redskins were Redskins Are Offensively Challenged and they continued to prove me right.  NFL analyst predicted that this could be the game the Lions win and unfortunately, they were right.

Despite having problems moving the ball, Haynesworth and four other players got hurt during the course of the game, Clinton Porter looked like he should not have been on the field.  When the Fox NFL cast says that “the Redskins looked lethargic” and Michael Strahan even said the Skins looked like “qitters”…ouch.  You have to wonder if this franchise doomed for the rest of the season.

I imagine that Jim Zorn and Dan Snyder will be having some tough discussions this week.  If Dan Snyder wants to keep the love of loyal Redskins fans, he will do what everyone knows skins6_t764ato be the right thing and let Jim Zorn go back to Seattle.  Clearly the demise of the team is the fault of this dynamic duo but more so Zorn because ultimately, the team is only as good as it’s head coach.  The game against the Lions proved just that.  From ESPN:

Washington had its last of many chances to win from its 22 with 1:05 left and failed to do much more than scare the Lions by driving into their territory. The Redskins wasted opportunities all afternoon to avoid the embarrassment of losing to the lowly Lions. Embattled coach Jim Zorn will likely be pressed for answers as he was a week ago after an unimpressive 9-7 win over St. Louis.

Zorn was burned by at least two decisions.  He went for it on fourth-and-goal from the 1 on Washington’s first drive and Clinton Portis was stopped.

“I didn’t think we’d be denied getting in the end zone and we were,” Zorn said. “But there was no way a team could drive 99 yards on us was my thought.” Washington had its last of many chances to win from its 22 with 1:05 left and failed to do much more than scare the Lions by driving into their territory.

Hmmm…Zorn definitely has a lot of explaining to do and John Riggins (@riggo44) wasted no time calling Zorn and Snyder out on Twitter:

Riggo_Publicity_ShotThere are team specific issues for sure and some individual issues for sure but the owner ultimately is a loser and you can’t fix that…as the owner alot on the line in Detroit u invite Tom Cruise to the game and he is chatting up your Coach! what does this tell us about YOU!…u r Zorn..Head Coach..in Detroit…alot on the line….and u r chatting up TomKat before the game…what does that tell us about YOU!!!

Yeah Riggo, I feel you.
